Street Art, George Town, Malaysia

In 2012 for the George Town Festival, Lithuanian Artist, Ernest Zacharevic, was commissioned to do a series of paintings in the city centre. He combined his paintings cleverly with objects such as bicycles, motorbikes and architectural details.

This commission built on a collection of 3D steel sculptures fixed to buildings, commissioned by the Penang State Government in 2010.  I did not photograph the steel sculptures, which are more enduring and in many ways, less interesting. The main attraction for me was the paintings.

Street art is now a major attraction in Georgetown. Tourists love to pose and be photographed as part of the artwork. The full collection, most of which are by Ernest Zacharevic, is in the slider gallery below.
