Today we were free all day and so Margit, Hellmut, Hermann and I hired bikes and explored the port and some of the sandy roads through the forest to the shores of the Lake.
The sandy firetracks through the conifer forest were hard in places and very soft in others but were great to explore. They led to some very secluded and beautiful Lakeside beaches.
Later we had a bowl of soup in a cafe near the Lakeside. Outside, in the street, I met a local couple.
The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing at our lodgings. In the early evening I had a stroll into the woodland nearby. It is a surprise that there is still some left, given the amount of wood cut down for fuel. The winters are harsh here and it seems that people need a lot of wood to see them through it.
