A day trip to Northam Burrows, north Devon. This interesting bit of coast is a peninsula bordering the River Torridge to the east, the estuary of the Rivers Taw and Torridge to the north and the open sea to the west. Northam is a small village to the south east. The pretty little town of Appledore lies across the mud flats to the east and fronts onto the River Torridge, facing the equally attractive town of Instow on the other side. North across the estuary is Braunton Burrows.

The beach here is sandy and flat and the receding tide spreads the water into a thin layer reflecting the sky.
