There is no rail line between Banff and Jasper but there is a great bus tour along the Icefields Parkway Highway stopping off at key points of interest. The first important stop was Lake Louise.
The smoke from the 700 plus forest fires in this region had moved away, the weather was unusually clear and the lakes were mirror calm. Here is the spectacular view of Bow Lake, just off the Icefields Parkway Highway.
A little further down the Icefields Route and a short walk from Bow Summit, is a view of Peyto Lake. The lake is fed by Peyto glacier (visible on the left) which gives it that unbelievable turquoise colour. When it was first photographed Kodak were asked to check the film for faults.
The trip up to the Athabasca Glacier was fun travelling in an all-terrain ice explorer vehicle. The glacier is still impessive but much smaller than it was a few decades ago.
After leaving the glacier and before driving on to Jasper we stopped off for a walk down to the lovely Athabasca Falls.
